I hate myself for going back, but there's nothing to do in New Milford. The pool is really expensive. The joint is sways empty, even on weekends, and there's no package deals, like a bowling alley, to keep you there for more than an hour. I have owned three bars and aside from events, they don't do much to encourage repeat business, or lengthy visits.
So the first time I ever went here I was with my sister and a few friends, ages 22-30, mostly from NJ. Even though we were clearly all of age the owner decided to ID us, and when he saw all NJ IDs he became skeptical and decided to scan them. However his scanner only works on CT IDs. So after the scanner failed he decided he was going to let us play, so we got our balls and picked a table. As soon as we were getting set up the owner comes over and says "get out". He had changed his mind and kicked us all out because HIS scanner was broken.
The second time I went with mostly CT friends, all of age, but a younger looking group. This time the owner couldn't care less and was too busy playing his own game of pool to ID us. So we enjoyed our drinks and played a few games and left.
Good place to shoot pool no real food good beer and bands
It was empty prime time on a Friday night. Three parties there. Someone asks to play pool at a pool hall and gets kicked out. Guy said he didn't appreciate him hustling his customers, but if he was paying attention to his business instead of looking like he'd rather be doing something else, he'd have seen these guys were getting lessons.
FIND A BETTER PLACE TO PLAY POOL
I go they're because my boyfriend likes to play pool and I suck, so he'll play with friends, or all someone of they want to play. Common pool hall behavior. We've done this everywhere we've lived and traveled. He joins three guys so they can play teams. They are obvious beginners, so he's giving them lessons. They play again and take a break. There's an older guy not doing much, but playing guitar sitting on the couch because he looks bored, and we guess he's the owner, so boyfriend asks him to play pool. He reacts badly, says he doesn't appreciate him hustling in his bar, and asks him to leave. There's only one table out of 20 with people on it. You own a pool hall, and you won't play pool with a paying customer? So, we settled our tab and left.
The owner is a jerk who doesn't care about his business but only cares about what time he wants to go home. Every time I've been in the I've come with more people than are even in the bar, we would effectively double his business during those hours, but the owner doesn't seem to care about his business. If you're thinking about going here I'll save you the trip because you're most likely getting kicked out before you even enter. Pretty much every bar around here has a pool table so just go anywhere else instead.
First the positive. Good beer selection.
Anyway, not the right attitude for a hospitality business. If you want to sit around and play your guitar instead of interacting with your customers, stay at home.
I have been here 3 times and have only been allowed inside once. I'm from New Jersey but I come to Candlewood Lake every summer.
I always have fun ! And it’s close by
The third time the owner showed us that he really doesn't care about his customers. We showed up around 1150, the place closes at 2 so we were willing to drink a good amount and play a few games. As soon as we walk I. The owner yells at us saying "we're closing at 1230"... This was Friday night of labor day weekend. So we say fine we'll still play and have a few drinks. This however does not make the owner very happy, and he got even more mad when one of our friends asked if they do pitchers and another asked what they had on tap, they don't do either I guess.. a few seconds later the last two of us show up, one of which had a drink that she got rid of (it's 100% legal for a passenger to drink from an open container in CT) but when she came in the owner was waiting at the entrance and asked her "what she was drinking" when she responded he told her to "get out" and when we asked why they couldn't get in he said "you guys can stay but they can't" so we responded with "ok then we're leaving", too which he responded with "good". We had already ordered drinks too. Then when we were waiting for our ride the owner came back out to check things out he yelled to us saying "You know I was going to stay open an extra hour for you guys" and then closed the doors.
Nice place to grab a drink, listen to music and of course, play a few games of pool!
